A Louis Vuitton belt size is the strap length in centimetres measured from the buckle to the third hole, and the tag often pairs it with inches: 90/36 is one 90 cm strap. Louis Vuitton's men's chart runs 80 to 120 cm and pairs a 90 with a US 32 trouser; resale listings of 40 mm LV Initiales belts tagged 90/36 measure 42 to 45.5 inches end to end, about 107 to 116 cm.
A Louis Vuitton belt size is the strap length in centimetres from the buckle to the third hole, and the tag often adds the same length in inches: 90/36 is one 90 cm strap. Louis Vuitton’s men’s chart runs 80 to 120 cm, and 40 mm belts tagged 90/36 measure about 107 to 116 cm end to end.

Louis Vuitton is more forthcoming about belt sizing than most houses. Its product pages carry a size selector, a “Size guide” link and a width line for each model, and a separate men’s belt size guide maps every strap length to inches and to trouser sizes in three countries. The difficulty is not a missing chart. It is that the number on the tag, the length a tape reads end to end, and the trouser size in the chart are three different quantities, and buyers mix them up. This page separates them, using Louis Vuitton’s own pages first and resale measurements second.
Buckle to third hole: what the size number measures
Louis Vuitton’s measuring note is short: the belt is measured from the buckle to the third hole, and the corresponding body measurement is taken at the highest part of the hips. Most LV straps carry five holes, so the third is the middle one, and the size is the length at which the belt closes with two holes to spare in each direction. A size 90 therefore puts 90 cm between the buckle and the middle hole. The note also says where to measure the body, which is not the natural waist. A belt worn through trouser loops sits at the top of the hips, and on most people that circumference is several centimetres larger than the waist, which is why the LV size usually comes out above the waist measurement in centimetres.
What 90/36 says, and why the 36 is not your waist
The paired tag is the same strap in two units. Louis Vuitton’s men’s belt size guide prints its ladder as 80 cm beside 32 inches, 85 beside 34, 90 beside 36, 95 beside 38, 100 beside 40, 105 beside 42, 110 beside 44 and 120 beside 48. Every inch figure is the centimetre length divided by 2.54 and rounded up to an even number: 80 cm is 31.5 inches, 90 cm is 35.4. The trap is the second number. A 90/36 belt is not for a 36 inch waist, and Louis Vuitton’s own guide says so in its next row, where the 90 cm belt sits beside a US and UK 32 trouser. Read the inch figure as the strap, and look up the trouser size in the chart.
| LV belt size | Inch figure on the guide | US / UK trouser | Italy trouser | France trouser |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 80 cm | 32 | 28 | 42 | 38 |
| 85 cm | 34 | 30 | 44 | 40 |
| 90 cm | 36 | 32 | 46 | 42 |
| 95 cm | 38 | 34 | 48 | 44 |
| 100 cm | 40 | 36 | 50 | 46 |
| 105 cm | 42 | 38 | 52 | 48 |
| 110 cm | 44 | 40 | 54 | 50 |
| 120 cm | 48 | 44 | 58 | 54 |
Two trouser columns that disagree by one size
Copies of Louis Vuitton’s chart do not all agree. The men’s guide on louisvuitton.com puts a US 32 trouser beside the 90 cm belt. A widely copied third-party version of an LV men’s chart, the one that also reproduces the buckle-to-third-hole note, puts a US 30 beside the 90 and a US 32 beside the 95. SoPicks, which compiled LV’s sizing pages, reports seeing two different belt charts on Louis Vuitton’s site, one in the general size guide section and one inside individual product pages, and recommends the product-page version. The practical consequence is a one-size gap: the same 32 inch trouser lands on a 90 in one chart and a 95 in the other. The way out is the measurement rather than either chart. Take a belt that fits, measure from the buckle to the hole you actually use, and pick the LV size nearest that number. If it falls between two sizes, the larger one leaves the extra hole on the long side.
The women’s ladder: 75 to 95 cm, and the models that go further
The women’s chart reproduced from Louis Vuitton’s product pages has five rows: 75 cm (29.5 inches, US 2, France 34), 80 cm (31.5 inches, US 4, France 36), 85 cm (33.5 inches, US 6, France 38), 90 cm (35.5 inches, US 8, France 40) and 95 cm (37.5 inches, US 10, France 42). Here the inch column is printed to the half inch rather than rounded to an even number, so a women’s 85 reads 33.5 where a men’s 85 reads 34. The model pages are wider than the chart. Louis Vuitton’s women’s belt category lists 30 mm LV Initiales and Pretty LV belts beside 20 mm and 15 mm styles, and the 40 mm LV Initiales in Damier Infini, reference M0107T, is listed in 85, 90, 95, 100 and 110 cm. A women’s belt can be offered in a men’s length, so check the size selector on the specific model.

A 90 measures 107 to 116 cm end to end
Resale listings show how far the full strap runs past the size. Fashionphile measured a 2010 and a 2015 Damier Graphite 40 mm LV Initiales belt, both tagged 90/36, at 45.5 inches long, and a 2020 Monogram 40 mm LV Initiales tagged 90/36 at 42 inches. In centimetres that is 115.6 and 106.7 cm: 17 to 26 cm more than the tag. The difference is the strap folded around the buckle bar plus the tail beyond the last hole, and it varies by model and year. That spread is the reason a tip-to-tip measurement cannot be converted back into a size reliably. Ask a seller for the buckle-to-third-hole distance, which should come back within a centimetre or two of the tag, rather than for the total length.
| Piece as listed | Tag | Length end to end | Over the tag |
|---|---|---|---|
| Damier Graphite 40 mm LV Initiales, 2010 | 90/36 | 45.5 in / 115.6 cm | about 26 cm |
| Damier Graphite 40 mm LV Initiales, 2015 | 90/36 | 45.5 in / 115.6 cm | about 26 cm |
| Monogram 40 mm LV Initiales, 2020 | 90/36 | 42 in / 106.7 cm | about 17 cm |
The “Length x Width” line on LV product pages
Louis Vuitton’s US product pages print a dimensions line that reads like a measurement but is not one. The 40 mm LV Initiales in Taigarama, reference M0713U, reads “35.4 x 15.7 inches (Length x Width)”; the Damier Infini version, M0107T, reads 37.4 x 15.7; the Monogram Taurillon version, M8458S, reads 39.4 x 15.7. The first figure is simply the selected size in inches: 90, 95 and 100 cm divided by 2.54. The second figure matches the 40 mm width in inches with the decimal point in the wrong place, since 4 cm is 1.57 inches, and the same pages state the width correctly a few lines lower as 1.6 inches, 4 cm. Use the size and the stated width; do not read the dimensions line as a strap length or a strap width.
Widths from 12 to 40 mm, and buckles wider than the strap
The width is part of each model name, which makes it the easiest number to confirm. Louis Vuitton’s US belt pages list the Flower Lock at 12 mm, the Mini Flowergram at 15 mm, LV Bloom, Pretty LV and LV Circle Prime at 20 mm, LV Initiales, Pretty LV and LV Flowergram at 30 mm, LV Circle at 35 mm, and LV Initiales and the LV Shield at 40 mm. The buckle is a separate figure and can be much larger than the strap. The LV Circle Prime 20 mm reversible belt, reference M0510W, publishes a buckle 3 cm high and 8.5 cm wide on a 2 cm strap. The width decides the trouser loop the strap will pass; the buckle height decides whether it sits flat in front of the waistband. Sizes also vary by model: the LV Shield 40 mm reversible belt, M8770U, made in Spain, is listed in 90, 95 and 100 cm only.
Four answers to get before an LV belt changes hands
Ask for a photograph of the size stamp on the inside of the strap, the distance in centimetres from the buckle to the third hole, the strap width at the holes, and the model name with its millimetre figure. If the stamp reads 90/36, the strap is a 90 and the 36 is the same length in inches. If the buckle-to-third-hole distance comes back close to 90 cm, the strap has not been shortened or re-punched. If the width matches the millimetre figure in the model name, the belt is what it says it is. The remaining question is the trouser loop, which is settled with one photograph of the loop and a tape measure.

Frequently asked questions about Louis Vuitton belt sizes
- How does Louis Vuitton measure belt size?
- From the buckle to the third hole. Louis Vuitton's measuring note, reproduced on the size charts that copy its product pages, says the belt is measured from the buckle to the third hole and that the matching body measurement is taken at the highest part of the hips. So a size 90 has 90 cm between the buckle and its middle hole, not 90 cm of leather. The full strap is always longer, because it also has to fold around the buckle bar and run past the last hole into the keeper.
- What does 90/36 mean on a Louis Vuitton belt?
- Both numbers describe one strap: 90 is the length in centimetres and 36 is the same length in inches. Louis Vuitton's own men's size guide prints its sizes this way, 80 cm beside 32 inches, 90 cm beside 36 and 120 cm beside 48. The inch figure is rounded: 90 divided by 2.54 is 35.4. The 36 is not a waist size, and the same guide pairs a 90 cm belt with a US 32 trouser, not a 36.
- What size Louis Vuitton belt for a 32 inch waist?
- Louis Vuitton's men's size guide places a US and UK 32 trouser beside the 90 cm belt, with Italy 46 and France 42 in the same row. Some third-party copies of an LV chart print the trouser column one step lower, pairing 90 cm with a US 30, so a chart with that shift will point a 32 waist to a 95. When the two disagree, measure a belt you already wear from the buckle to the hole you use and choose the LV size nearest that figure.
- What sizes do Louis Vuitton women's belts come in?
- The women's chart reproduced from Louis Vuitton's product pages runs 75, 80, 85, 90 and 95 cm, paired with US 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 and French 34 to 42. Individual models extend further: the 40 mm LV Initiales in Damier Infini, reference M0107T, lists 85 to 110 cm, and several women's reversible belts are sold in the men's lengths as well. Check the size list on the product page rather than assuming a women's belt stops at 95.
- Why does my LV belt measure longer than its size?
- Because the size stops at the third hole. Fashionphile measured two Damier Graphite 40 mm LV Initiales belts tagged 90/36 at 45.5 inches long, 115.6 cm, and a Monogram 40 mm LV Initiales tagged 90/36 at 42 inches, 106.7 cm. That is 17 to 26 cm beyond the tag, taken up by the buckle fold and the tail. A tape run from tip to tip will always disagree with the size; measure from the buckle to the middle hole instead.
- How wide are Louis Vuitton belts?
- The width is in the model name. Louis Vuitton's US belt pages list the Flower Lock at 12 mm, the Mini Flowergram at 15 mm, LV Bloom, Pretty LV and LV Circle Prime at 20 mm, LV Initiales, Pretty LV and LV Flowergram at 30 mm, LV Circle at 35 mm, and LV Initiales and LV Shield at 40 mm. The product page for a 40 mm LV Initiales prints its width as 1.6 inches, 4 cm.
