Prada Re-Edition 2005, 2000 and 1995: Sizes and Strap Lengths

On Prada's own product pages the Re-Edition 2000 mini-bag measures 22 × 17 × 6 cm and the Re-Edition 2005 Re-Nylon bag measures 22 × 18 × 6 cm — a 1 cm difference in height and the same 22 cm width. Choose the 2005 if you want the removable chain handle, the detachable 85 cm woven strap and the removable zippered pouch; choose the 2000 if you want the same nylon body with a woven tape handle and nothing that detaches.

Both sit at 22 cm wide and 6 cm deep, both close with a zip, and both carry the enamel triangle logo on the front, so the size question answers itself once the strap question is settled. What takes longer to untangle is the naming: the numbers in Re-Edition 2000, 2005, 2008 and 1978 are not sizes, and two of the numbers people search for most do not appear on Prada’s site at all.

What the numbers in 2000, 2005, 2008 and 1978 mean

Prada’s own pages name the products “Re-Nylon Prada Re-Edition 2000 mini-bag”, “Prada Re-Edition 2005 Re-Nylon bag”, “Prada Re-Edition 2008 Re-Nylon mini-bag” and “Prada Re-Edition 1978 medium Re-Nylon and Saffiano leather tote bag”, and that is where the numbers come from — they are part of the product name, not a measurement.

Two things follow from that, and both matter when you are comparing listings.

First, the numbers are not sizes 2,000 and 2,005 of anything, and they do not describe the bag’s dimensions. A 2005 is 22 cm wide; the number has nothing to do with it.

Second, Prada does not explain them. Across the pages collected for this guide, 2000, 2005, 2008 and 1978 appear only inside product names, with no official text saying which year or which original body each refers to. The most direct statement available is from a resale and specification source, Bragmybag, which records the Re-Edition 2005 with a release date of 2005 and describes the line as an updated reissue of past designs. Treat the year reading as a reasonable convention rather than an official definition.

What Prada does say plainly is what Re-Nylon is: a regenerated nylon introduced through the Re-Nylon project, created by recycling and purifying plastic collected from oceans, fishing nets, landfills and textile fibre waste. The product pages list the main material simply as Recycled Polyamide. The house’s nylon goes back further than the name — Prada describes its signature material as dating from the end of the 1970s — but Re-Nylon is the version stamped on the current bags.

The 2000 and 2005 bodies prada.com lists today

Every figure below is from the product pages themselves, which print the measurements in the order Height, Length, Width rather than width first. The table is reordered to width × height × depth.

The table is the whole answer to the size question, and it also shows why the same bag gets quoted two ways. Grouping the depths is enough: the 2000 is the 17 cm-tall body, the 2005 Re-Nylon, Saffiano, crochet and suede bodies are 18 cm tall and 6 cm deep, and the mini-bag variants named alongside them are 18 cm tall and 6.5 cm deep.

Step back from the two 2000 and 2005 bodies and the family’s most-quoted number turns out to be its least useful one. Every one of the seventeen bodies tabled on this page is 22 cm wide: the 2000 mini-bag, the 2005 in Re-Nylon, Saffiano, crochet, nubuck, suede and satin, the four 2005 mini-bag variants and all five bodies in the year-less mini line. A listing that reports nothing beyond a 22 cm width therefore fits the whole family, and what separates those bodies is the depth — 6 cm on the 2000 and the 2005 Re-Nylon, 6.5 cm on the mini-bag variants — together with the handle. The scale the family actually covers runs much wider: 6 × 7.5 × 2.5 cm at the bottom for the 1978 mini-pouch with keychain, 20 × 12.5 × 9 cm for the 2008 mini-bag, and 43 × 31 × 15 cm at the top for the 1978 large tote.

A note on how thin the evidence gets in places. The 2005 Re-Nylon and Saffiano mini bag appears under four product codes on Prada’s site — 1N204M_R064_F0BR5, 1N204P_R064_F0002, 1N204X_R064_F0002 and 1NE204_R064_F0F24 — and all four print the same 22 × 18 × 6.5 cm, which is the kind of agreement worth having when a listing follows the name but not the code. The 2005 Saffiano leather mini-bag is the opposite case: two codes print the same 20 cm figure, but one words it “Saffiano leather strap, drop 20 cm” and the other “Saffiano leather handle, drop 20 cm”. Those are different parts, so this page records them as separate figures rather than treating 20 cm as a single strap number.

The year-less Re-Edition mini line is a separate body

Five current products carry “Re-Edition mini” in the name with no year attached — mini crochet, mini shearling, mini velvet, mini Saffiano leather and quilted Re-Nylon. They hit the same 22 × 18 × 6 cm numbers as the 2005 bodies, which is exactly why they cause confusion: the shape and the measurements agree, and the name does not.

The practical consequence is that a 22 × 18 × 6 cm measurement does not identify a bag as a 2005. It identifies it as one of at least ten current bodies in that size, in two naming families. If you are matching a photographed piece, the measurement narrows the field and the name does not necessarily resolve it.

1978 and 2008: the tote and backpack numbers

The other two numbers in the family are not mini bags at all, and their figures live on a different scale. The 1978 is a tote and backpack line that uses Re-Nylon with Saffiano leather, and the 2008 is a single current mini body, which is why the family’s size range runs from a 6 cm keychain pouch to a 43 cm tote.

Two details in that table are worth reading carefully. The 1978 backpack’s page prints height before the other figures and quotes a 23.5 cm width that is its widest point, so it is not directly comparable with the flat 22 cm of the mini bodies. And the 2008 mini-bag at 20 × 12.5 × 9 cm is the only current Re-Edition shaped like a small box rather than a flat, wide pouch — narrower, taller than it is deep, and 3 cm deeper than any of the mini bodies above.

1995 and 2006 are documented, but not by Prada

Two numbers that show up in searches have no product page on Prada’s site. Combining the brand’s 63 regional product sitemaps produced Re-Edition entries for 1978, 2000, 2005 and 2008 only; nothing for 1995 or 2006. Their figures come from resale platforms, which is a different kind of source and is labelled as such here.

Read that as a record of what is being resold rather than as a specification. The three 1995 entries are three different bodies — a 17.8 cm mini, a 25.4 cm tote and a 26 cm shoulder bag — so a search for “Re-Edition 1995 size” is a search for three answers, not one. None of the four can be checked against a Prada page, and the resale listings do not state whether these are Re-Nylon rather than another nylon.

Where the resale tables disagree with Prada’s own page

Resale tables are useful and they are also built from hand measurement, so they diverge from the manufacturer’s figures in a consistent direction: shallower depth claimed on some tiers and a much shorter height on others.

The 5.3 cm gap on the 2005 is the one to keep in mind. A resale height is usually taken on the body alone with the bag lying flat, while a manufacturer’s height is often the bag standing as it is worn, and the difference between those two conventions on a soft nylon body is several centimetres. The direction is not random either: across the three bodies in the table above the resale figures run 1.8 cm and 5.3 cm shorter, and the single case that goes the other way is 0.5 cm shallower rather than shorter. Neither number is wrong; quoting one against the other is what produces a mismatch. So when a listing states its own measurement, compare it with a measurement taken the same way — flat against flat — instead of against the published table.

Straps: an 85 cm woven strap, printed ranges and a 20 cm handle

The strap is where the Re-Edition pages are least uniform, and it is worth knowing what each figure actually describes.

Two readings from that table change how you shop the family. A 20 cm drop is a short shoulder-tuck figure, nothing like an 85 cm strap, and both appear under the name “Re-Edition 2005”. And the shearling mini’s 100 cm strap is 15 cm longer than the standard 85 cm, so two bags in the same 22 × 18 × 6 cm body do not behave the same way on the shoulder.

Where a page prints a range, this guide prints the range. Converting “maximum 60 cm, minimum 43 cm” into a single 51.5 cm figure would invent a setting that no page lists, which is exactly the kind of averaged number that makes two sources look like they disagree about a bag they both describe correctly.

What fits inside the 22 × 18 × 6 cm body

Prada answers this question on the product page itself. For the 2000 mini-bag, the 2005 Re-Nylon bag and the 2005 Re-Nylon and Saffiano mini bag, the “Inside the bag” text reads: “This bag can comfortably hold an iPhone 17 Pro Max, a small Prada wallet and other small items.”

That sentence is worth keeping, because it fixes the shape of the usable space. A Pro-Max-sized phone plus a small wallet is the ceiling the brand itself states, in a body 6 cm deep. A larger wallet, a compact, sunglasses in a case or a water bottle are not covered by that description. The 6.5 cm mini-bag variants add half a centimetre of depth, which does not change the category.

Structure adds a second layer to that. The 2005 Re-Nylon bag is listed with a removable Re-Nylon zipper pouch and the Re-Edition keychain on top of the zipped main compartment, so small items can be separated instead of stacked. The 2000 mini-bag is listed with a zip closure and a logo-print Re-Nylon lining and nothing detachable. The 2005 mini-bag variants sit between the two, listing a zipper pocket inside the lining rather than a removable pouch.

Re-Nylon, in Prada’s own words

Three statements from the house cover most of what a buyer asks about the material, and all three are worth having in front of you rather than paraphrased.

The family shares more than the material. The official listings across 2000, 2005, 2008 and the mini line all name an “Enameled metal triangle logo on the front”, a zipper closure and a logo-print nylon lining, and the 2005 and mini-family bodies add a removable key ring or keychain. Because those parts repeat across the whole line, the material and the logo will not tell two Re-Edition bodies apart — the measurements and the strap will.

Reading a Re-Edition listing: five checks

1. Read the depth, not just the width. Nearly every body in this family is 22 cm wide, so width alone identifies almost nothing. The 2000 is 6 cm deep at 17 cm tall, the 2005 Re-Nylon is 6 cm deep at 18 cm tall, the mini-bag variants are 6.5 cm deep, and the 2008 is 9 cm deep at 20 cm wide.
2. Look at the handle. A woven tape handle with no chain reads as the 2000. A chain handle with a separate ribbon strap reads as a 2005 body or a year-less mini, and both families share 22 × 18 × 6 cm.
3. Check whether the pouch is present. The removable Re-Nylon zipper pouch with the Re-Edition keychain is listed on the 2005 Re-Nylon bag; the mini-bag variants describe a lining pocket instead.
4. Ask for the strap length and drop separately. 85 cm, a 100 cm shearling strap and a 20 cm drop all appear in this family, and they are different parts of the bag.
5. Treat 1995 and 2006 as resale-recorded only. There is no Prada page to check them against, so the figures you are given come from the platform, and the 1995 name covers at least three bodies.

What a photograph can settle is the family: a zip-fastened flat nylon body with the enamel triangle on the front, at 22 cm wide. What it cannot settle is the depth, because 6 cm and 6.5 cm look identical in a picture, or the strap, because a chain handle and a chain handle with a ribbon strap are one detail apart. Ask for the depth and the strap length with the piece in frame, and the family resolves.
