Width and depth rank the four in different orders
The four published footprints do not rank the same way in width and in depth. Ordered by width: Le Cagole Mini 20.8 cm, Hourglass Small 22.9 cm, Le City Mini 24 cm and Le Cagole XS 25.9 cm, a 5.1 cm spread. Ordered by depth: Le Cagole Mini 4.3 cm, Le Cagole XS 6.9 cm, Le City Mini 9 cm and Hourglass Small 9.9 cm, a 5.6 cm spread. Only the two ends agree. The second-narrowest bag, Hourglass Small, is the deepest in the family at 9.9 cm, while the widest, Le Cagole XS, is 3 cm shallower than it. So a listing that gives one width cannot tell you what a bag holds: a 22.9 cm Hourglass takes a compact wallet beside a phone more easily than a 25.9 cm Le Cagole XS, and only the depth column shows it. Measure the gusset, not the front.
Le Cagole Mini and XS use the same slouch in two footprints
Le Cagole Mini is published at 20.8 × 13 × 4.3 cm and Le Cagole XS at 25.9 × 16 × 6.9 cm. The XS is 5.1 cm wider, 3 cm taller and 2.6 cm deeper. That sounds incremental until the load is considered: the Mini's 4.3 cm depth barely leaves room for a card holder beside a phone, while the XS can take a compact wallet or small pouch. The slouchy leather changes how the exterior looks but does not create depth. The studs and mirror charm add visual weight and can catch on fabric, which matters for an everyday crossbody.
Hourglass keeps its curved shape against the load
The Hourglass Small is published at 22.9 × 14 × 9.9 cm. Its rigid front and curved lower edge explain why it feels unlike Le Cagole even when the widths are close. A 9.9 cm depth gives more front-to-back room than the Le Cagole Mini and XS, but the structured body does not collapse around a half-empty load. The B-shaped closure is easy to identify in a photo and should be shown squarely from the front. For evening use it holds essentials while keeping a boxy profile; for a full wallet, the depth and rigid sides still impose a limit.
Le City Mini is the second tier of six, and the tier word drifts
Le City Mini is published at 24 × 16 × 9 cm with an 8 cm handle drop and a 50 cm strap drop, the second tier of six current Le City sizes above the Nano at 18.5 × 12 × 7 cm. One step up, the Small is 30 × 19 × 9.6 cm with a 10 cm handle drop and a 55 cm strap drop: width gains 6 cm while depth gains 0.6 cm, so the step buys length rather than volume. The 2024 relaunch is the trap here. The same Mini tier was published at 24 × 16 × 6.5 cm with a 9 cm handle drop and a 55 cm strap drop, so the depth of a Mini can read 9 cm or 6.5 cm depending on the product code. Ask for the code and a tape across the gusset before comparing two listings that both say mini.
A 5 cm width change matters more on a slouch than a box
On a rigid Hourglass, 5 cm of width is mostly more internal length and a stronger horizontal line. On a soft Le Cagole, the same change can let the side panels open and the bag hang lower. That is why comparing paper dimensions without looking at construction can mislead. The City Mini's structure sits between those extremes. Use width to choose the silhouette, depth to choose the contents and strap drop to choose the carry position. None of those can be replaced by a single “small” label.
Strap and hardware checks that stop a near-match
Le Cagole and Le City both use visible hardware, but the strap geometry is not interchangeable. Ask whether the shoulder strap is detachable and adjustable, then measure the drop. Confirm whether the photo shows a mirror charm, a removable pouch, a front pocket or a zip opening. The Le City front is softened by its moto construction and studs, and the hanging mirror and front pocket vary across Motorcycle, Classic City and current Le City naming, so they belong to the exact reference rather than to the tier. A bag photographed from the front can hide whether the strap is short enough for hand carry or long enough to cross the body. The hardware finish is a separate choice from the size. When two near-identical black bags are side by side, the strap and opening often separate them faster than the logo.
Which Balenciaga mini to choose
Choose Le Cagole Mini for the smallest slouchy silhouette and accept the 4.3 cm depth limitation. Move to Le Cagole XS when a compact wallet and slightly more room matter. Choose Hourglass Small when the rigid curved body and 9.9 cm depth fit the way you carry. Choose the City Mini when the zip opening, 24 × 16 × 9 cm body and 50 cm strap drop suit an everyday load. In every case, the specific reference and a tape measurement remain the final check.
