Chanel Boots in cm: Heel Heights of 2 to 11 cm, Shafts of 6 to 74 cm, and What the Marked Size Leaves Out

Chanel boots measured as published: heel heights 2 to 11 cm, shaft heights 6 to 74 cm, ankle 27 to 31 cm, insole 22 to 27 cm — and why the EU number never settles the fit.

Published Chanel boot measurements run from a 2 cm heel on a 42 cm shaft to an 11 cm block heel on a 26 cm boot, with ankle circumference between 27 and 31 cm and calf between 30 and 36 cm. On the listings that print an insole, a marked EU 36 measures 22 cm, EU 39.5 measures 26 cm and EU 40 measures 27 cm — a 13 to 14 cm gap under the size number that varies by more than a full size.

Chanel boots are published with four numbers that decide fit, and none of them is the size on the box: heel heights from 2 to 11 cm, shaft heights from 6 to 74 cm, ankle circumference from 27 to 31 cm, and insole lengths of 22, 26 and 27 cm on the sizes that print one. The marked EU number stays the same across boots that sit on completely different parts of the leg.

What fifteen published Chanel boot listings measure

Every figure below is copied from a listing for the named boot, read in October 2026. Sellers publish these numbers in different combinations — some give a heel and a shaft, some give an insole and a platform — so the empty cells are gaps in the source, not zeros.

The table is the argument. Three boots marked 39.5 appear in it and they are not interchangeable: one has a 6 cm stem above an 11 cm heel, one rises 26 cm at the back, and one is a 42 cm shaft with a 7 cm heel. The marked number is identical in all three, so a listing that gives only “Chanel boots, 39.5” has told a buyer nothing about what the boot will do to a calf, an ankle or a hemline.

Heel height groups into four steps, and the top step repeats

The heels group rather than spread. There is a 2 cm heel on a black lamb boot with a velvet calfskin toe and a silver grille, then a cluster at 4 and 4.5 cm on the nylon Coco Neige combat boot, the gold crinkled leather boot and the collector boot with removable gaiters, then 7, 8 and 8.5 cm on the quilted velvet calfskin, the lambskin mid boot and the patent mid-calf boot, then 9.5 cm on the open-toe suede boot, and finally 11 cm on three block-heeled quilted ankle boots. Eleven centimetres is the most repeated single figure in the set: it is published on a size 36 quilted ankle boot, a size 39.5 low boot and a size 39.5 calfskin boot, from two different marketplaces, which means it describes a family of boots rather than one seller’s measurement. The gap between the lowest and highest heel here is 9 cm, more than three shoe sizes of difference under the foot.

Heel minus platform is the height the foot actually climbs

Two listings publish both a heel and a platform, and subtracting one from the other changes the ranking. The size 39.5 low boot pairs an 11 cm heel with a 1 cm platform, so the foot climbs 10 cm from the ball to the heel. The size 39.5 Coco Neige combat boot pairs a 4 cm heel with a 2 cm platform, so the same foot climbs just 2 cm. Read as a single figure, a 4 cm boot looks easier than an 11 cm boot by 7 cm; read as net rise, the gap is 8 cm. The other platform in the set — 3 cm on the camel quilted lambskin boot — is published without a heel figure, so it cannot be placed on the same scale at all.

That arithmetic matters when a boot is bought to be walked in rather than photographed. A 10 cm net rise tilts the foot forward by roughly the same amount as a 100 mm pump, and the shaft above it does nothing to reduce the angle. The 2 cm net rise of the nylon combat boot is closer to a flat, which is why the same house can sell two boots with heels 7 cm apart that feel nothing like each other on the foot.

Shaft height runs from 6 cm to 74 cm, and sellers measure it three ways

The published shaft figures in the set are 6, 12, 13.5, 26, 27, 42, 42, 42, 42 and 74 cm, and they are not measured the same way. Two listings call it a “stem” — 6 cm on a 39.5 low boot and 12 cm on a 37 lamb boot — which is the leather standing above the heel rather than the whole back of the boot. Two call it a “boot height” or “height”, 26 and 27 cm, measured at the back from the sole. Four quote 42 cm — a 37 grille boot, a 38.5 brown lambskin boot, a 37 collector boot and a 39.5 C velvet calfskin boot — though the four sellers name it a shaft length, a boot height and a stem. The thigh-high is 74 cm. A buyer comparing a “6 cm stem” with a “26 cm height” is comparing a piece of leather with a whole boot, and the same 39.5 size sits inside both numbers.

Ankle circumference stays put while the shaft climbs

Seven listings publish an ankle measurement, and it barely moves: 27 cm on the size 37 grille boot and the 38.5 brown lambskin boot, 29 cm on the size 40 mid boot, 29 to 30 cm on the nylon combat boot, 30 cm on the 39.5 low boot and the 39.5 C quilted velvet boot, and 31 cm on the 39.5 calfskin boot. That is a 4 cm spread across five sizes and five constructions. The calf is the number that actually changes: 30 cm on the 38.5 brown lambskin knee-high, 34 cm on the 37 grille boot, and 36 cm on both the size 40 mid boot and the 39.5 C velvet calfskin boot. A 42 cm shaft with a 36 cm calf is a close fit; the same shaft with a 34 cm calf leaves 2 cm more room at the widest point of the leg.

The insole length says more than the marked size

Only three listings publish an insole, and together they show how much room the number hides. A size 36 measures 22 cm, a size 39.5 measures 26 cm and a size 40 measures 27 cm. Put those against the foot lengths printed by the steadyfoot Chanel chart — 22.0 cm at EU 36, 24.3 cm at EU 39.5 and 24.7 cm at EU 40 — and the allowance runs from 0 cm at size 36 to 1.7 cm at 39.5 and 2.3 cm at 40. The insole is therefore not a fixed offset: it sits 13 to 14 cm below the marked EU number, and the room it leaves grows as the sizes climb. A buyer who is a measured 23 cm foot is choosing between a size 36 with no allowance and a size 37 that the chart prints at 22.7 cm — which is why the half size, not the whole size, is the meaningful step in these boots.

The size ladder is French, and two charts print 1.0 to 1.7 cm apart

Chanel boots are marked in French sizes, which read the same as EU numbers: resale listings write “37 FR” and “40.5 (FR)” for boots whose European number is the same figure. Two published charts carry that ladder and they do not agree. The steadyfoot chart runs 21.3 cm at EU 35, 22.0 at 36, 23.3 at 38, 24.7 at 40 and 25.3 at 41, in even 0.6 to 0.7 cm steps. A second chart prints 22.5 cm at EU 35, 23.0 at 36, 24.5 at 38, 26.0 at 40 and 26.5 at 41, and it jumps a full centimetre between 37 and 38 where the other climbs 0.6 cm. At EU 36 the two are 1.0 cm apart; at EU 40 they are 1.3 cm apart; at EU 41, 1.2 cm. Since a half size on the steadyfoot ladder is about 0.35 cm, the two charts disagree by more than a full size at every point checked.

The material changes the shaft, not the size

The fifteen boots cover lambskin, smooth calfskin, patent calfskin, suede, velvet calfskin, crinkled metallic leather, nylon and a suede-and-leather thigh-high, and the material tracks the shaft height more closely than the size does. The softest lambskin appears on the 26 to 27 cm mid-height boots and on the 42 cm grille boot, where a shaft that has to hug a calf is cut from leather that gives. Patent appears on a 36.5 mid-calf boot with an 8.5 cm heel, a surface that holds its shape. The nylon Coco Neige boot is the outlier: a 13.5 cm shaft on a puffer upper with a lace-up front, built to be waterproof, and the only boot in the set described as running a full size small. Velvet calfskin appears at both ends of the range: a 42 cm shaft with a 7 cm heel on the pearl grey quilted boot, and the bands at the top of the 40 camel boot, which sits on a 3 cm platform.

The C width turns up on boots as well as flats

Three of the boots are marked with a width letter: 39.5 C on the quilted velvet calfskin, 40.5 C on the gold crinkled leather and 41 C on the white crinkled lambskin. C is the wide fitting and B is the regular one, and the letter is written after the number rather than in a separate field. That matters on a boot more than on a flat, because the shaft and the ankle circumference are cut for the width the boot was made in, and a 39.5 C and a 39.5 B are not the same boot at the ankle even when the insole matches. A listing that quotes “Chanel boots, 39.5” without the letter has left the width, and therefore the ankle measurement, undecided.

What a boot photograph cannot show

Every boot in the table shares the house vocabulary: the interlocking CC somewhere on the shaft or heel, quilting on the leather or on the back panel, a side or back zip, a block or covered heel. A photograph therefore establishes the family long before it establishes the fit, and the numbers that decide fit are exactly the ones a camera does not record. A 26 cm boot and a 42 cm boot look similar in a cropped image where the top of the shaft leaves the frame, and a 6 cm stem and a 13.5 cm shaft look identical when the boot is lying on its side.

What a photograph can show is the closure and the toe. A back zip with a 5 cm top extension behaves differently from a lace-up front with a 13.5 cm shaft: the zip fixes the opening, while the lacing lets the ankle be drawn in. A round toe on a 36 and a pointed toe on a 40 change how much of the insole is usable at the front, which is the difference between 22 cm of leather and 22 cm of usable length.

Three numbers to send before asking about a Chanel boot

Send the marked size with its width letter, the shaft height in centimetres measured at the back from the sole, and your calf circumference taken standing. Those three settle most of the question. If the seller answers with a heel height instead of a shaft, ask which one they mean: the stem above the heel, or the whole back of the boot — the same boot can be quoted as 6 cm or 26 cm depending on the convention, and both are honest readings of a different measurement.

Add the insole length if the seller has it, because it is the only figure that can be compared directly with a foot measured against a wall. A 26 cm insole on a size 39.5 is 1.7 cm more than the 24.3 cm the steadyfoot chart prints for that size, and that 1.7 cm is roughly what a boot needs over a bare foot before a sock is added. Where the insole is not published, the calf circumference and the shaft height do the same work for a knee-high, and the ankle circumference does it for an ankle boot.

Where these figures were read, and when

Every measurement above is a reading of a published listing or a published chart checked on 21 October 2026. Where two sources give different figures for the same thing, both are printed rather than averaged.

Frequently asked questions about Chanel boot sizing

Do Chanel boots run small?
The listings that state a fit word say yes, and the measurements explain why. A size 36 quilted leather ankle boot is published with a 22 cm insole, while the foot-length column of a Chanel size chart prints 22.0 cm for EU 36 — no allowance at all. A size 39.5 boot is published with 26 cm of insole against 24.3 cm on the same chart, which is 1.7 cm of allowance. The higher the size, the more room the insole gives, so the smaller sizes are where a half size up matters most.
What heel heights do Chanel boots come in?
Across fifteen published listings the heels fall into four steps: 2 cm on a black lamb boot with a velvet calfskin toe, 4 to 4.5 cm on a nylon Coco Neige combat boot and a collector boot with removable gaiters, 7 to 8 cm on quilted velvet calfskin, mid-calf patent and lambskin styles, 8.5 to 9.5 cm on a patent mid-calf boot and an open-toe suede boot, and 11 cm on three block-heeled quilted ankle boots. Eleven centimetres is the most repeated figure in the set, appearing on three different boots from two marketplaces.
How tall are Chanel knee-high boots?
Knee-high Chanel boots in this set are published at 42 cm of shaft: a size 37 black lamb boot with a silver grille toe, a size 38.5 brown lambskin boot, a size 37 collector boot from autumn/winter 2021-22 and a size 39.5 C quilted velvet calfskin boot all quote 42 cm. Mid-calf styles sit at 26 to 27 cm, ankle boots at 13.5 cm, and a 2014 Paris-Salzburg thigh-high is published at 74 cm. The 42 cm group carries calf circumferences of 30, 34 and 36 cm, which is the number that decides whether a knee-high closes.
Does a Chanel boot in size 39.5 fit the same across styles?
No. Three boots marked 39.5 are published here with different shaft heights and ankle circumferences: a low boot with a 6 cm stem and a 30 cm ankle, a calfskin boot with a 26 cm height and a 31 cm ankle, and a quilted velvet calfskin boot with a 42 cm shaft and a 30 cm ankle. The size label is the same in all three and the three boots are worn in completely different places on the leg.
What does C mean on a Chanel boot?
C is the wide fitting, and it appears on boots as well as on flats and sneakers: a quilted velvet calfskin boot marked 39.5 C, a gold crinkled leather boot marked 40.5 C and a white crinkled lambskin boot marked 41 C are all published with the letter. The regular fitting is B, which is often written as the plain number. A listing that quotes only the number leaves the width unresolved.
How much space should be inside a Chanel boot?
The published insoles give the range. Against the steadyfoot Chanel chart, a size 36 insole of 22 cm leaves 0 cm over the 22.0 cm printed foot length, a size 39.5 insole of 26 cm leaves 1.7 cm over 24.3 cm, and a size 40 insole of 27 cm leaves 2.3 cm over 24.7 cm. Between 1 cm and 1.5 cm of insole over your measured foot is the working target, which puts a size 36 boot at the tight end rather than the roomy one.
