Gucci does not size loafers on one scale. Men's loafers are numbered on the UK/AU ladder, so a Gucci 8 is a UK 8, an IT/EU 42, a US 8.5 and a published foot length of 10.75 inches (27.3 cm). Women's loafers are numbered on the Italian ladder from IT 34 to IT 42, and an IT 38 is a US 8 with a 9.72-inch foot — about 2.6 cm shorter than the men's 8. The two fit lines Gucci prints per model pull in opposite directions as well: the Princetown page says the shoes run small and asks for half a size up, the Ragazzo page says the style runs large and asks for at least one size down. Measure the foot in centimetres, then place it against the foot-length column rather than the cm label beside it.
A Gucci loafer size is not one scale. Gucci numbers men’s loafers on the UK/AU ladder, where a Gucci 8 is a UK 8, an IT/EU 42, a US 8.5 and a published foot length of 10.75 inches (27.3 cm), and it numbers women’s loafers on the Italian ladder from IT 34 to IT 42, where an IT 38 is a US 8 with a 9.72-inch foot. The same numeral covers two different feet.
Gucci’s own instruction for using that chart adds a second problem. The how-to-measure block on the men’s product pages tells the buyer to measure both feet and to use the length of the longest foot as the reference in the sizing guide, and the column it points at is headed FOOT LENGTH (INCH). The centimetre column sitting immediately beside it is headed JP (CM) and holds Japanese size labels — 23, 24, 25 — not the measurement the instruction asks for. Across Gucci’s men’s table the two columns agree at exactly one place: near UK 9, where the label reads 28 cm and the foot-length column reads 11.02 inches, which is 28.0 cm. Below that row the foot-length column is the longer of the two by as much as 1.4 cm, and above it the centimetre label overtakes the measured length by up to 2.3 cm.
Everything below is placed against pages that print the figures: Gucci’s own product pages, the charts they carry, and resale listings where somebody put a tape to the shoe. The two photographs on this page show what a photograph can settle — hardware colour, upper, sole build — and what it cannot, which is the number inside.
The number inside a Gucci loafer is a label, not a length
A size stamp on a loafer is a name for a row in a table. Gucci’s tables have five or six columns each, and only one of them is a length: the rest convert between countries. That is why the same shoe can be described as a 42, an 8, an 8.5 and a 27 in four different conversations, and why the argument about whether Gucci loafers run large usually turns out to be an argument about which column two people were reading.
For the men’s line-up Gucci prints this ladder, on the size guide attached to the product pages themselves. The first column and the third column are the same number, because the men’s ladder is the UK/AU ladder; the centimetre figure in the fifth column is the Japanese size label, and the last column is the one Gucci tells you to compare your own foot to.
The men’s ladder: UK numbers with a published foot length
| Gucci size = UK/AU | IT/EU | US | JP (CM) label | Foot length (inch) | Foot length (cm, computed) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | 38 | 4.5 | 23 | 9.61 | 24.4 |
| 5 | 39 | 5.5 | 24 | 9.88 | 25.1 |
| 5.5 | 39.5 | 6 | 24.5 | 10.44 | 26.5 |
| 6 | 40 | 6.5 | 25 | 10.04 | 25.5 |
| 7 | 41 | 7.5 | 26 | 10.31 | 26.2 |
| 7.5 | 41.5 | 8 | 26.5 | 10.59 | 26.9 |
| 8 | 42 | 8.5 | 27 | 10.75 | 27.3 |
| 9 | 43 | 9.5 | 28 | 11.02 | 28.0 |
| 10 | 44 | 10.5 | 29 | 11.30 | 28.7 |
| 11 | 45 | 11.5 | 30 | 11.57 | 29.4 |
| 12 | 46 | 12.5 | 31 | 11.89 | 30.2 |
| 13 | 47 | 13.5 | 32 | 12.16 | 30.9 |
| 17 | 51 | 17.5 | 36 | 13.27 | 33.7 |
The centimetre figures in the last column are computed from the published inches at 1 inch equals 2.54 cm; Gucci prints them in inches only on the English pages. Two rows are worth keeping in mind when a seller quotes a measurement: the men’s Gucci 8 is 27.3 cm by this column, and the men’s Gucci 13 is 30.9 cm.
The women’s ladder: Italian numbers from 34 to 42
Women’s Gucci loafers are not on the same ladder, and the women’s chart is built differently — the Italian size is the first column, and the EU column is a separate one that runs a step above it, so an IT 38 is printed as an EU 39.
| Gucci size = IT | EU | UK | FR | US | JP (CM) label | Foot length (inch) | Foot length (cm, computed) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 34 | 35 | 1 | 35 | 4 | 21 | 8.58 | 21.8 |
| 36 | 37 | 3 | 37 | 6 | 23 | 9.17 | 23.3 |
| 37 | 38 | 4 | 38 | 7 | 24 | 9.45 | 24.0 |
| 37.5 | 38.5 | 4.5 | 38.5 | 7.5 | 24.5 | 9.60 | 24.4 |
| 38 | 39 | 5 | 39 | 8 | 25 | 9.72 | 24.7 |
| 39 | 40 | 6 | 40 | 9 | 26 | 10.00 | 25.4 |
| 40 | 41 | 7 | 41 | 10 | 27 | 10.31 | 26.2 |
| 41 | 42 | 8 | 42 | 11 | 28 | 10.59 | 26.9 |
| 42 | 43 | 9 | 43 | 12 | 29 | 10.86 | 27.6 |
Read the two tables together and the ambiguity becomes concrete. The men’s ladder has a Gucci 8 and the women’s ladder has a US 8, and the two rows describe feet 2.6 cm apart. A woman who wears a US 8 and a man who wears a US 8.5 are one half step apart in the American system and one full size apart in the Italian column, because the numerals on the box were never meant to be compared with each other.
A men’s Gucci 8 and a women’s US 8 are 2.6 cm apart
The practical version of that comparison: a men’s Gucci 8 sits at the IT/EU 42 row with a 27.3 cm foot; women’s loafers stop at IT 42, which Gucci prints as a US 12 with a 27.6 cm foot. So the very top of the women’s ladder and the middle of the men’s ladder land within 3 mm of each other in length while sitting six numbered rows apart on their own charts. A buyer seeing two listings described as a 42 — one from the men’s line and one from the women’s line — has two shoes of nearly identical length and no way to know it from the numbers alone.
Gucci’s charts do give the American equivalent for every row, which is what most buyers work from. The men’s chart maps UK 4 to US 4.5 and each half step up the UK ladder to a half step up the American one, so the offset never changes: a UK 8 is always a US 8.5, and a UK 13 is always a US 13.5, on the product pages of the loafers themselves.
Where the two columns in Gucci’s own table stop agreeing
| Row (Gucci size) | JP (CM) label | Foot length (inch) | Foot length (cm) | Gap between the two columns |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UK 4 | 23 | 9.61 | 24.4 | label is 1.4 cm short |
| UK 5.5 | 24.5 | 10.44 | 26.5 | label is 2.0 cm short |
| UK 8 | 27 | 10.75 | 27.3 | label is 0.3 cm short |
| UK 9 | 28 | 11.02 | 28.0 | the two agree |
| UK 13 | 32 | 12.16 | 30.9 | label is 1.1 cm long |
| UK 17 | 36 | 13.27 | 33.7 | label is 2.3 cm long |
The pattern is not noise; it is two different scales. The JP column advances in clean centimetre steps, one centimetre per half step above UK 9, while the foot-length column advances in steps of about 0.3 to 0.4 cm, which is what a real foot does. Somewhere in the middle they cross. That crossover is the whole reason a chart with six columns can send two careful buyers to different sizes: the one who measured a 25 cm foot and looked for 25 cm in the table found the label column, and the one who converted to 9.84 inches found the length column two rows away.
The row that breaks its own sequence, and the one printed with a letter O
Two cells in Gucci’s tables are worth knowing about because a buyer quoting them will otherwise sound wrong. In the men’s table, the UK 5.5 row prints 10.44 inches. The rows around it print 9.88 inches at UK 5 and 10.04 inches at UK 6, so 10.44 sits about 0.4 inches above the sequence, and it is longer than the row two steps further up the ladder. In the women’s table, the IT 39.5 row prints its foot length as 1O.16 — with a capital letter O in place of the zero, the only cell in either table where a letter appears in a numeric field.
Neither marks a defect in the shoe. They mark the difference between a table and a measurement: the grid was typed by hand, and the shoe in front of you was not. When a seller’s quoted figure falls on one of those two rows, the figure is still usable — the practical move is to line it up against an adjacent row rather than against the neighbour the sequence predicts.
The fit sentence Gucci prints per loafer, and how far it ranges
The chart converts; the model decides. Gucci attaches a build description to each loafer, and on some of them a fit instruction, and the instructions do not agree with each other.
| Model (style number) | What Gucci prints about the build | What Gucci prints about fit |
|---|---|---|
| Men’s Horsebit 1953 loafer 307929 BLM00 1000 | Leather sole, flat, 0.5-inch height, gold-toned hardware, made in Italy | No fit sentence |
| Men’s Gucci Jordaan loafer 406994 BLM00 4009 | Elongated toe, Blake construction, leather sole, 0.5-inch heel height | No fit sentence |
| Princetown slipper 580083 1GO00 6829 | Backless mule, leather sole, women’s Horsebit detail, 0.4-inch heel height | These shoes run small, we recommend sizing up half a size |
| Men’s Ragazzo loafer 867507 AAGEH 1000 | Slim leather sole, reverse construction, padded insole, semi-square toe | The style runs large, selecting at least one size down is recommended |
| Women’s loafer with Horsebit 414998 DLC00 1000 | Slim shape, leather sole, soft leather, designed to be worn with the heel folded down as a slipper or up as a loafer | No fit sentence |
That table spans one and a half sizes of official advice across five loafers from a single house. Ask for half a size up on the Princetown and at least a full size down on the Ragazzo and the two instructions together cover the entire distance between the typical buyer’s normal size and a close fit. The two lines that print no instruction are the two most often copied: the 1953 Horsebit and the Jordaan, which leads to the tidiest explanation of why one forum thread insists each is true to size and the next insists each runs large — neither page promises anything, so every answer given is a personal fit report wearing the clothes of a rule.
Heel heights that differ inside one collection name
The build lines are where a measurement question and a photograph can actually be settled. Under the Horsebit name Gucci prints a flat 0.5-inch height on the 1953 loafer and a 0.4-inch heel on the Princetown; the women’s foldable loafer prints 0.4 inches and a slim shape, while a different women’s loafer with the same Horsebit detail prints a rubber sole with 1.7 inches at the back and 0.9 inches at the front. The same collection word therefore covers a flat shoe and a lifted one, and sole thickness at the forefoot is the figure that decides how much room the toes get inside a given size.
What a reseller’s tape measure adds to the chart
Resale listings are the closest thing to a measured insole that a remote buyer can find, and two examples show both the value and the trap. A Gucci Jordaan offered in IT 37.5 was listed with a 24.5 cm insole; Gucci’s own women’s chart gives that row a foot length of 9.60 inches, or 24.4 cm, so the tape and the table agreed within a millimetre. That is the shape a real check takes: the measured insole of a loafer should land close to the chart’s foot-length figure for its row, not close to the centimetre label beside it.
The trap is the relabelling. One reseller listed a pair of men’s Gucci Horsebit loafers as a size 12 because the heel-to-toe measurement came to about 11 inches, while noting on the same page that the shoes are marked Size 9. Eleven inches is the chart’s figure for a UK 11, and the marked 9 is the chart’s figure for 10.96 inches in that reseller’s own conversion, so one shoe carried two published sizes and neither was invented — they were taken from two different rows by two different methods. Any listing that quotes a measurement instead of a mark is worth asking to confirm both.

| Gucci’s own men’s and women’s charts | UK 8 = IT/EU 42 = US 8.5, foot 27.3 cm | IT 38 = EU 39 = US 8, foot 24.7 cm |
| Fashionphile conversion chart | Size 8 = IT/EU 42 = US 8.5, JP 27 cm | IT 38 = FR 39 = US 8, JP 25 cm |

| shoesizing.net Gucci chart | UK 8 = EU 42 = US 9 | UK 5 = EU 38 = US 7, 23.7 cm |
Three of those four charts agree with Gucci’s own American figures, and all three of them reproduce the centimetre label rather than the foot-length column — which is the same crossover described above, arriving in the buyer’s hands as a 27 cm figure for a row Gucci prints at 27.3 cm. One chart, shoesizing.net, lands half a size higher on the men’s side and a full size lower on the women’s side at the same rows, which is why the advice to check one chart is incomplete: the charts are not copies of each other, and only one of them sits on the house’s own page.
How to settle a Gucci loafer size before it ships
Four figures, taken flat with a tape and photographed next to the shoe, will settle a Gucci loafer fit without anyone converting a table by hand.
- Insole length, from the inside of the heel to the tip of the toe, in centimetres. Compare it to the foot-length column of the row, not to the JP label.
- Width across the ball of the foot at its widest point, which is the figure that decides whether a slim last will pinch, and which no Gucci chart publishes.
- Inside height at the back of the heel, because the 1953 and the Jordaan share a marked size and not a back.
- Sole thickness at the forefoot and at the heel, which separates the flat 0.5-inch build from the lifted women’s styles and changes how much room the toes have.
Ask for the stamped size as well, and for a photograph of the stamp. Given the two ladders in play, a number without the word men’s or women’s in front of it cannot be checked at all.
What the two photographs settle, and what they do not

The photographs above are the kind of reference a seller works from, and they answer the questions that are visible: which line a loafer belongs to, which hardware finish it carries, whether the upper is smooth, grained or embossed, and whether the sole is a thin leather one or a built-up rubber one. They do not carry a length. A loafer photographed next to a tape measure carries one, and that is the image to ask for when the size is the open question.
Browse the Shoes Catalog or send the model, the stamped size and your foot length on WhatsApp. The published figures quoted above are reference data collected for research and checked on 1 October 2026, not a statement about any particular pair. For the same method applied to a sneaker, the LV Trainer sizing guide traces one model’s instructions across its references and the Dior B30 sizing guide compares a published chart with real insole lengths; the regional shoe size conversion guide covers the US, EU, UK and centimetre systems generally; the shoe construction and sole guide explains how a sole is attached and why that changes the feel of a size; and the Gucci belt size guide shows the one Gucci category where the number on the item is a length rather than a label.

Frequent questions about Gucci loafer sizing
- Do Gucci loafers run big or small?
- It depends on the model line, and Gucci says so on its own product pages. The Princetown slipper carries the sentence: these shoes run small, we recommend sizing up half a size. The Ragazzo loafer carries the opposite: the style runs large, selecting at least one size down is recommended. The Horsebit 1953 loafer and the Jordaan print no fit sentence at all, only build details — a leather sole and a flat 0.5-inch height on the 1953, and Blake construction on the Jordaan. A single answer covering every Gucci loafer does not exist; the model decides.
- What is a Gucci size 8 in US sizing?
- It depends which ladder the shoe belongs to. On the men's chart the first column is the UK/AU size, so a men's Gucci 8 is a UK 8, an IT/EU 42, a US 8.5 and a foot length of 10.75 inches. On the women's chart the first column is the Italian size, and women's loafers run from IT 34 to IT 42, so a US women's 8 is an IT 38 with a 9.72-inch foot. The numeral 8 therefore points at two feet roughly 2.6 cm apart, and the box alone does not say which chart applies.
- Which column of the Gucci size chart should I use?
- The foot-length column, which Gucci heads FOOT LENGTH (INCH) on its English pages, and which its own how-to-measure text names as the reference: measure both feet with the heel against a wall and use the longer one. The centimetre column beside it is headed JP (CM) and carries Japanese size labels rather than your measurement; on Gucci's men's table the two columns agree at only one row, near UK 9, and diverge by as much as 1.4 cm below it and 2.3 cm above it. Convert your own foot to inches with a calculator, or convert the column the other way, but do not treat the cm label as your measured length.
- Does Gucci publish a half size in loafers?
- Yes, on both ladders. The men's chart runs in half steps from UK 4 to UK 17, which Gucci prints as US 4.5 to US 17.5, and the 1953 loafer page offers those steps as buyable sizes. Women's sizes run IT 34 to IT 42, also in half steps. Half steps matter because they are exactly the unit of the house's own advice: the Princetown asks for half a size up and the Ragazzo for a full size down, which lands the buyer between two rows of any table.
- Why does one row of Gucci's men's chart look wrong?
- The row for UK 5.5, IT/EU 39.5 and US 6 prints a foot length of 10.44 inches. Its neighbours are 9.88 inches at UK 5 and 10.04 inches at UK 6, so the value sits about 0.4 inches above where the sequence puts it, and it is longer than the row two steps above. The women's table has a mark of its own: the IT 39.5 row prints the foot length as 1O.16, with a letter O where the zero belongs. Neither is a reason to distrust the rest of the table, but both are reasons to read the row you actually need instead of assuming the grid is uniform.
- What measurements should I ask for on a Gucci loafer?
- Four, all taken flat on the shoe with a tape: insole length from the inside of the heel to the tip of the toe, the widest point across the ball of the foot, the height of the back of the shoe inside at the heel, and the sole thickness at the forefoot and at the heel. Ask for the number stamped on the shoe as well, and for a photograph of that stamp. Two different lines can share a marked size and still feel different, because one is built on a slimmer last with a softer back.
