The length word, not the model name
Chelsea and Kensington are fit names, and each one is sold in short, mid-length and long bodies. Burberry quotes the length against a size on the product page, so the same UK 10 measures 87 cm in the short Kensington, 97 cm in the mid-length Kensington and Chelsea, and 107 cm in the long versions of both. The Waterloo is cut long only, at 117 cm, and the men's Kensington runs to different figures because it is quoted against Italian sizes: 88 cm / 34.7 in for short at IT 48 and 116 cm / 45.7 in for long at IT 50. When a listing names only the model, ask for the length word as well, because the coat silhouette is decided by it and not by the fit.
Classic, slim and regular — what each fit actually does
Burberry attaches a fit word to every Heritage trench, and it is a construction statement rather than a marketing one. Chelsea is the slim fit and its own Size and Fit block says it fits true to size, take your normal size. Kensington is the classic fit, also true to size, with more room through the body. Waterloo is the regular fit, cut long with soft curved shoulders and raglan sleeves. The difference shows up when the coat is worn over a layer: a slim sleeve and a narrower shoulder line leave less room for a knit underneath, which is why a large retailer selling the same mid-length Chelsea prints a fit note telling buyers to order one size up while Burberry's own page says take your normal size. Both are true statements about different intentions.
The UK, US and IT ladder, with four measurements
Burberry's women's chart is anchored on UK sizes and carries the US and Italian equivalents alongside bust, waist and hips. UK 6 / US 4 / IT 38 is an 84 cm bust, 67 cm waist and 92 cm hips; UK 10 / US 8 / IT 42 is 92 cm, 75 cm and 100 cm; UK 14 / US 12 / IT 46 is 100 cm, 84 cm and 108 cm; UK 18 / US 16 / IT 50 is 109 cm, 94 cm and 116 cm. The step between sizes is four centimetres at the bust and waist, widening to five at the top of the range, so the ladder is regular rather than compressed. Men's pieces are quoted against Italian sizes instead, which is the one place the two halves of the range stop being directly comparable.
Sweaters and coats are measured the same way
The same habit that makes the trench pages readable carries across the rest of the range. Burberry prints a garment length on its sweater pages against a stated size: 68 cm in UK L on the men's cashmere crewneck, 66.5 cm in UK M on the men's fine-knit wool crewneck, 64 cm in UK S on the women's heavyweight wool-cashmere crewneck and 60 cm in UK S on the women's cashmere crewneck, all cut to the brand's classic fit. Because the length is always quoted against a named size, two sweaters in the same letter can be compared directly, and the fibre is printed beside it — 98% cashmere on the men's crewneck, 100% wool on the fine-knit, wool-cashmere made in Italy on the women's heavyweight. Length plus fibre plus fit word is enough to describe a piece without seeing it.
